Ecological Monitoring of Land and Sea Waters – Obi Island, North Maluku

A nickel mining company engaged Tura Consulting Indonesia to conduct ecological monitoring of lakes, rivers, and marine waters in the western region of Obi Island, North Maluku. The monitoring activities covered inland water bodies such as Karo Lake, Loji Lake, and Akelamo River, as well as marine ecosystems in the Kawasi Sea Waters Area. This study aimed to assess the current ecological conditions and support environmental compliance in relation to mining operations and supporting facilities. 

Description of services provided by TURA are listed below 

  1. Water and sediment quality monitoring and measurement 
  2. Heavy metal analysis in fish samples 
  3. Monitoring of plankton and coral reefs, including reef fish and megabenthos 
  4. Assessment of bioecological conditions with trend analysis for each study area 
  5. Comparative analysis of disturbed vs. undisturbed areas 
  6. Compilation of ecological monitoring reports 
  7. Providing recommendations for environmental management based on monitoring results 

 

This project highlights TURA’s capability in delivering comprehensive environmental monitoring services in line with national environmental standards and sustainable mining practices.
